JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Jackson police are investigating a shooting in northwest Jackson that has left one man dead.

JPD Officer Colendula Green identified the victim as 50-year-old Bobbie Tyler.

Green said authorities are following up on leads, but no arrests have been made.

JPD Chief Lee Vance said the shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Bailey Avenue near Northside Drive.

Vance said the man died at the scene.

"We're in the process now of looking for information that may lead us to who is responsible for a shooting," said Chief Vance.

Vance said the victim suffered at least one gunshot wound, possibly more.

Chief Vance said witnesses at the scene said they heard anywhere from three to five shots, and others saw two men running behind the business where the man's body was discovered.

"That information may not lead anywhere", Vance said.

"Vague descriptions, if any, and we have not been able to verify anything at this point," Vance added.

Police worked the scene for more than an hour Friday night.

The coroner took the body to the state crime lab for an autopsy.

In the meantime, Chief Vance says any tips will help law enforcement as they work the case.
