Mother and child at center of Amber Alert found safe

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Saturday night around 10:50 p.m. an Amber Alert was issued for two-year-old Zane Alexander Walters and his mother, 17-year-old Erica Leeanne Walters.

Not long after that alert was issued, around 11:10 p.m., the alert was canceled by the Mississippi Department of Public Safety.

A press release from the Simpson County Sheriff's Department said on September 19, 2014, at approximately 5:58 p.m., the Simpson County Sheriff's Office received a report that Erica Walters and her son, Zane Walters were abducted at gunpoint in Magee, MS.

Authorities said Walters and her son were taken in a black 2014 Chevrolet Impala bearing Smith County, Mississippi license plate SMI 053. 

The press release went on to say, at approximately 11:10 p.m. Saturday the Louisiana State Police made contact with the vehicle in question and took a white male subject into custody.

Walters and her son were found, unharmed, in the vehicle.

The male subject will be awaiting extradition to Simpson County, Mississippi, where he will be charged with two counts of kidnapping. 

Saturday night's Amber Alert stated they were seen Saturday, September 20th at approximately 10:06 p.m. traveling eastbound on I-20 in Warren County near the Mississippi/Louisiana state line.

An Endangered/Missing Child Alert was issued earlier Saturday afternoon for the mother and son, who were believed to be in the company of 17-year-old Dakota Thornton.
