JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A host of officials, and community members gathered Thursday for the ribbon cutting ceremony, celebrating Ms. Johnnie Johnson's new home.

Earlier this year, the home, on North West Street, was nearly burned down with Johnson's family inside. They all made it out safely, and were all smiles today, as they shared in the happy occasion.

Local construction company Mac and Associates, along with the support of several sub contractors rebuilt the once charred home free of charge.

The owner, Marcus Wallace, says when he heard Johnson's tragic story, he promised with God's help, he would turn her tears of sorrow into joy.

Johnson says he's done that and more.

"Marcus, he's just been a joy," said Johnson. "You couldn't ask for a better person than Marcus and I'm just praying that his work will continue, not just stop at me; that he will continue to do so that he can continue to be blessed."

Johnson is considered a pillar in the community. She was a foster parent for nearly 30 years, and she currently has 11 adopted children.
