Jackson residents celebrate National Night Out

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Jackson residents are teaming up with law enforcement in an effort to keep crime out of their neighborhoods. This year's National Night Out festivities were held at the Mississippi Ag Museum on Lakeland Drive.

Hinds County Sheriff Tyrone Lewis and his deputies, along with officers from JPD met face to face with members of the community to talk about ways to reduce crime.

"Quite frankly, if we work in silos, then we will never be able to accomplish this so we want to have a collective input, said Jackson Mayor Tony Yarber. "This is the best way to do it; it is the only way to do it. And so it is our clarion call to the community to pull together and let crime know what we really mean."

National Night Out is celebrating 31 years of working with communities to reduce crime.
