JPD Prescription Take Back Day

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Saturday is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

It's an effort led by the Drug Enforcement Administration to allow residents to turn in their unused or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications for safe disposal.

Prescription medications play an important role in the health of millions of Americans. However, expired medications or unused drugs often stay in the back of cabinets for months or even years.

According to the D.E.A., these un-used medications are a public safety issue, leading to accidental poisoning, overdose and abuse.

Throwing away medications in trash cans or flushing them down the toilet can be a safety and health hazard.

Some medications are so potent that even one dose could be fatal if accidentally ingested.

You can safely get rid of those prescription drugs tomorrow at the following locations:

Jackson Police Department Headquarters, 327 E. Pascagoula Street
Salvation Army 110 Presto Lane
Stewpot Food bank 1100 W. Capitol Street
