JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Jackson man connected to a deadly shooting appeared in court on Monday.

21-year-old Lamont Ford's case was handed over to a grand jury.

He is charged with the murder of 22-year-old Zachary Robinson on Cottonwood Lane April 29. A previous charge of shooting into an occupied dwelling was dropped.

Investigators say an argument over the purchase of a vehicle sparked the shooting.

The victim's mother took the stand, saying her son was killed by a single gunshot wound. She says Ford had an assault rifle in his hands.

She says she saw her son fall to the ground.

After he fell, that is when Ford allegedly fired a shot in self defense.

The State says evidence has been handed over to state crime labs and they are waiting for results.
