JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Brookhaven Police are looking for any leads that may help solve a homicide.

Police Chief Bobby Bell says 36 year old Gregory James was shot multiple times in his yard around 1:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

When they arrived at a home on the 200 block of Washington Street, they found James, lying in the yard, with gunshot wounds.

Family and friends gathered outside the home as they learned about James' death. He was a father of 9 and owned a construction company, "Second Chance Construction."

"Everybody got their flaws but this man wasn't out here to hurt nobody he was out here to help the community," said one of James' friends.

The Chief of Police says it is one of these situations where no one saw anything but police are getting a few leads.

"We think he had an altercation with someone but right now I can't tell you that's what really happened. At this time we have no eye witnesses we have had a couple of leads giving us names and we are following up on those as I speak this is a community where they are going to get involved this crime is not going to go unsolved," said Chief Bell.

James' sons said he was a great father, who lived life to the fullest and always supported them at their sporting events. They are hoping anyone with information will come forward.

"I mean you wouldn't want the same thing to happen to your dad or anybody you love you would want somebody to tell exactly what happened so do the right thing," said Shauntez Smith, one of his sons.

If you have any information about this homicide please contact the Brookhaven Police Department at 601-833-2424.
