JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Alabama-Mississippi Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society honored two doctors at its annual Dinner of Champions event at the Country Club of Jackson Tuesday night.

There was a gourmet dinner and program. Guests also participated in a silent auction and Champagne and Diamonds toast.

"The biggest honor really is to take care of the patients," said Dr. Ruth Fredericks, one of the evening's honorees. "This population of patients is unlike any other in the sense that they are the most educated, driven, self sustaining group of patients. No matter what their hardships is, they pull themselves through, and that gives us all incentive to keep on plugging as doctors."

Dr. Robert Herndon was also honored at Tuesday's event. Both received the Society's Hope Award as well as tributes from their colleagues, patients and friends.
