The four-year-old child the Mississippi Department of Public Safety issued an amber alert for Wednesday night is safe and with family members. But, his father, Richard Green, is now behind bars.

The amber alert stemmed from a domestic violence situation that started at Green's home in Pearl late Wednesday night.

"I would be devastated first of all if someone came and battered me then took my son," said Pearl resident Nesaucia Battle. "I would be devastated."

Battle says domestic violence is a serious crime that happens too often. Pearl Police Captain Brian Ellis says they received a 911 call late Wednesday night from Richard Green that sent police to Green's home on Ivy Court.

"Mr. Green himself called 911 and reported that he had assaulted his wife," said Captain Ellis.

Pearl Police broke through the front door finding Green's wife suffering from heavy lacerations to the head. Thirty-seven year old Richard Green had fled with their four year old son Lincoln.

"We put out an amber alert due to the type of assault it was," said Captain Ellis. "Later in the night we were lucky enough to have a truck driver report that they had seen Mr. Green in McComb. Highway Patrol got them stopped and we took Mr. Green and Lincoln and got him back in custody."

Ellis says 37 year old Richard Green was just minutes away from crossing the state line into Louisiana. Green is behind bars charged with Aggravated Assault.

"Justice surely needs to be served," said Battle.

DHS has placed their child, Lincoln, with family members. Green's wife is recovering in an area hospital.
