Critically injured EMT takes wedding vows

BRANDON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - A fairly tale wedding came true for the AMR Paramedic critically injured in an accident last year.

Jennifer Hesselbein and Andrew Aycox were married Saturday at Heart of Pines in Brandon.

The bride, whose left lower leg was recently amputated, stood to her feet to exchange her vows.

The EMT was struck by a car last July while aiding a patient at the scene of an accident.

The new Mrs. Aycox lost her left eye and has undergone more than 30 surgeries.

"Even though Andrew and I had met before the accident and he had proposed to me before the accident we would not be sitting here and possibly could not have gotten married had my partner not risked his own life to try to save mine, because he was able to pull me out of the way," said bride Jennifer Hesselbein Aycox.

"It's definitely a day that she deserves. She deserves it all, especially you know after everything that she's been through," said groom Andrew Aycox.

The bride's EMT partner joined her father in escorting her down the aisle. The couple's honeymoon will be delayed while she continues medical treatments.
