JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Students in the ninth grade at Wingfield High School will be the first group of JPS Freshman Academy students to receive Apple MacBook computers.

Students and their parents will participate in a “Meet Your Mac” orientation on October 6, beginning at 6:15 p.m.

“We are preparing our students to learn and function in a digital world,” said Superintendent Dr. Cedrick Gray. “We have to prepare them for the world in which they will grow. This technology will help our students be creative and innovative, critical thinkers, communicators, problem solvers, collaborators and team players.”

The school district requires that each student be accompanied by at least one parent or legal guardian and pay a $40 technology fee in order to receive their laptop.

School officials will share new policies and procedures regarding the computers, along with proper handling of the devices, information on tech support, and how to deal with a damaged, lost or stolen computer.
