MADISON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - They're both ranked at number three in the nation, and are the talk of the town everywhere you go. This week, the excitement continues, after both Ole Miss and Mississippi State were recognized in the biggest sporting magazine on the planet.

The Mississippi Mayhem Sports Illustrated issue was released in the metro Thursday.
If you already have your hands on one, you're one of the lucky ones. All over town they're disappearing off of shelves fast!

As you can imagine these were hot items when they hit the shelves. At the Colony Crossing Kroger store in Madison, shoppers were rushing to pick up their copy, or should I say copies. Many people were grabbing multiple magazines to take home and show off to their friends and family.

"It's good for the whole state and I was so excited to see us in the state of Mississippi getting all the good glory," Said Nancy Barfoot. "We get last a lot, instead of being the last in everything last were the first."

Store managers say they received 193 copies at the Kroger. They stocked them at 11 Thursday morning. By 1 in the afternoon, they were all sold out.

Several other stores like Books-A-Million also report they sold out today.

Fans we talked to on both sides say this is a historic moment for the state of Mississippi.

"It's very exciting for the state of Mississippi," said former William Carey University Vice President Dr. Bill Payne. "I think it's one of the finest things as far as exposure, positive exposure for our state to have both flagship institutions featured not only athletically, but also academically. We've just got two fine institutions here in the state of Mississippi."
