Still no arrests in a north Jackson shooting that erupted between people in two vehicles while they were both driving. That chase ended in a head-on collision, and those involved remain at large.

“I came down here to see what had happened, and cars were mangled everywhere over here,” said resident Dionne Carter.

It's the end result of what sounds like something out of an action film; two cars coasting down Hanging Moss Road, bullets flying back and forth until one of the cars crashed.

“I was sitting on my porch, and I heard three or four shots,” said Carter. “The next [thing] I heard was a horrible crash.”

Carter lives less than a block away from the wreck.

“To hear two cars going down the street, and they're shooting, and I'm hitting the floor. it's disturbing,” said Carter.

Witnesses said at about 6:15 p.m. Sunday, the two vehicles came through the intersection, one of them in the wrong lane.

That car sideswiped two SUVs before hitting another car head-on.

The driver of that vehicle said one of her children was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

Those at the scene said one of the men involved in the shootout jumped out of the vehicle after the crash. They said he had been shot in the shoulder, and he left the scene without being arrested by authorities.

However, JPD spokeswoman Colendula Green said none of the suspects was still on the scene when law enforcement arrived and no one was injured.

Investigators are looking for the other vehicle that left the scene, a Mercury Grand Marquis.

“Last week, we had a shooting on Delrosa, and I was the only one who called the police," said Carter. Nobody else called. They want to save their communities, but everybody's afraid to talk.”

After three years of living in Jackson, Carter just wants the violence to stop.

“It's really disturbing that you see this and you see guns in the hands of young people. It's scary,” she said.
