Witnesses say that a funeral home employee jumped into a hearse to chase down a man who stole a Cadillac during a funeral.

The Hinds County Sheriff's Office is looking for the suspect who stole the car that belonged to the Westhaven Memorial Funeral Home in Jackson.

The owner of the funeral home tells us that a funeral was about to begin at St. Thomas Church in Bolton.

Westhaven Funeral Home employees say that the suspect, identified as Devarus White, stole the car as they were unloading a casket for the funeral.

The owner of the funeral home says that even the hearse gave chase, but lost the car near Clinton.

A Hinds County deputy says that the car was stolen from the church about 10 minutes before he intercepted it near Central Mississippi Medical Center.

He says the Cadillac was “flying down” Chadwick Drive in Jackson when he began to pursue it.

The deputy tells us that White put the car in reverse and tried to hit him, before he jumped out and fled the scene.

White is said to be a black male, wearing black shorts and a plaid shirt.
