JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Throughout its various programs the Stewpot Community Services serves about 600 people in need daily.

However, the non-profit is struggling financially and will likely close two shelter's, Matt's House for Women and Children and Brumfield Shelter for Men.

Brumfield Shelter and the Matt's House for Women and Children are expected to close November 15 because of a significant decrease in federal and local grants.

If money doesn't become available for the shelters to stay open, the 50 beds at Brumfield House and the 25 beds at Matt's House will no longer be available for those in need.

The loss of grants has also caused Stewpot to take out a $60K loan to pay employees. The non-profit has reached out to the City of Jackson and the Hinds County Board of Supervisors about possible assistance.

However, if you can help, please call Brumfield Shelter at 601-948-2864 or Matt's House at 601-948-2873.
