JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - Jackson Public Schools and the City of Jackson released a statement announcing a grant award to improve and support the Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics programs in the elementary division.

The grant has been awarded through the Toyota USA Foundation and the Mississippi Center for Education Innovation.

JPS Superintendent Dr. Cedrick Gray and Mayor Tony Yarber will address the public and media at Brown Elementary, located at 146 Ash Street, at 10:00 am on Tuesday.

Jackson Public Schools is the recipient of more than $400,000 in direct assistance over the next three years.

The funds will provide pre-K through 5th grade students and teachers hands-on STEM experiences that will create opportunities to expose and excite them about the field and to create a culture for further career exploration and possibilities.

“We are extremely excited about the awesome, unlimited possibilities this funding will provide as we implement strategies to improve the quality of education for JPS students,” said Superintendent Dr. Cedrick Gray.

The Toyota U.S.A. Foundation is distributing grants this year to 23 organizations that offer innovative K-12 programs, which focus on STEM and serve diverse communities across all 50 states.
