Comfortech Service Experts, one of the city's largest heating and air conditioning service companies, has launched a Thanksgiving food drive benefiting Stewpot Community Services.

Homeowners will receive $10 off a system tune-up or a service/repair call in exchange for a donation of canned goods such as fruits and vegetables, or dry goods like stuffing. Technicians will convey all donations to Stewpot Community Services in time for Thanksgiving.

Stewpot announced Monday Brumfield Shelter and the Matt's House for Women and Children are expected to close November 15 because of a significant decrease in federal and local grants.

If money doesn't become available for the shelters to stay open, the 50 beds at Brumfield House and the 25 beds at Matt's House will no longer be available for those in need.

The loss of grants has also caused Stewpot to take out a $60K loan to pay employees. The non-profit has reached out to the City of Jackson and the Hinds County Board of Supervisors about possible assistance.

However, if you can help, please call Brumfield Shelter at 601-948-2864 or Matt's House at 601-948-2873.
