Mississippi resident promoted to Army Brigadier General

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - Colonel Barbara Lynne Owens, a Mississippi resident, was promoted to Brigadier General today in a ceremony hosted by Maj. Gen. Richard P. Mustion, commanding general of Human Resources Command.

Colonel Owens, an Army Reserve Officer, was originally commissioned into the Signal Corps in 1985. She has served as a member of the Army's Adjutant General Corps for nearly 27 years.

Owens earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from the University of Southern Mississippi, a Master of Arts in Human Resources from Webster University, and a Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.

Colonel Owens currently serves as the deputy commanding general for the United States Army Human Resources Command at Fort Knox, Kentucky, ascending to that position on September 10.

Prior to that, Owens was the Executive Officer for the Deputy Commanding General, United States Army Reserve Command.
