Two men are behind bars in Lawrence County for gunning down a convenience store owner. Lawrence County Undersheriff Willie Wallace says 23 year old Kegerran Peyton and 22 year old Darrion Watts are in the Lawrence County Jail right now charged with capital murder.

The community is deeply saddened by the senseless killing.

"He would always smile and grab my hand and shake hands with me and use both of his hands to shake hands with me and just smile," said Arthur Crites, a longtime customer. "Always had a smile on his face."

Fifty-three year old Nilkanth Patil was gunned down Thursday night in his own store, Duncan's Corner, just off F.E. Sellers Highway in Lawrence County.

"Him and his son both were fine people," added Crites. "Always friendly to everybody, most everybody like them. They were just great people."

The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office tells us surveillance video revealed 23 year old Kegerran Peyton and 22 year old Darrion Watts walking into the store holding a gun at Mr. Patil and shooting him in the neck. The two men left with no cash.

Lawrence County Undersheriff Willie Wallace says another juvenile employee was shot during the attempted armed robbery, he was taken to a Hattiesburg hospital and since has been released.

"We will not tolerate this kind of thing if we can help it," said Undersheriff Wallace. "And with the help of the people and the community we can put a stop to this. There was no reason for this man to be shot. He was a good man. The people in the community really respected him."

"We're surely going to miss having him around," added Crites.

Peyton and Watts are facing capital murder charges along with armed robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery and aggravated assault.
