JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - The month of November is designated each year as National Adoption Month, and though it's a week away, there was an early celebration Saturday at the Ag Museum.

Foster families, parents who have adopted and those considering adoption come together to celebrate the importance of forever homes for children and teens.

One teenager who has been adopted thanked her mother for also adopting her two siblings to keep them together.

It was a day for foster children and adoptive families to enjoy a tour of the Ag Museum, go on hayrides and pick out pumpkins. Organizers say the event allows prospective parents to meet some of the children in the custody of the State Department of Human Services and other agencies.

DHS officials say more than 350 children have been placed in permanent homes so far this year.

The Adoption Celebration is organized by Southern Christian Services for Children and Youth.
