County and community leaders focus on disadvantaged youth with forum

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - County and community leaders come together to help social economically disadvantaged youth by providing them with leadership skills.

A Forum entitled "Rebuilding the Black Community: Valuing our Black Youth" was held Sunday at the Farish Street Baptist Church.

The Forum focused on helping middle, high school and college level students develop leadership skills.

Panelists at the forum ranged from specialists to young community members.

"We have to have a group of leaders that are different than what we currently have, we have to have leaders who concentrate on others as opposed to just getting ahead," said Dr. Martha Alexander, Chief Executive Officer and founder of Leadership Next Generation Plus Inc.

"It's time for our community to come together as a whole instead of individually to start working with our youth on one page," added Sheriff Tyrone Lewis.
