Charges against Hinds Sheriff's Department dropped

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - On Monday morning, Hinds County D.A. Robert Schuler Smith dropped the motion of contempt of court charges filed against members of the Hinds County Sheriff's Department.

He says the sheriff's department has agreed to work to to protect grand jury secrecy.

Previously, Smith had accused Chief Deputy Chris Picou and Othor Cain of contempt of court for allegedly leaking private grand jury information to several media outlets.

In response, the Sheriff's Department had said they have the right to release the no bill list. 

They say it is public record after it's filed with the clerk's office.
