Delta State #3 in Super Region Two

INDIANAPOLIS (GoStatesmen.com) - On the strength of the non-conference schedule and a fast start to the season, Delta State University debuted at No. 3 in the NCAA's first round of Super Region rankings. The Statesmen (6-1, 4-1 GSC) trail a pair of unbeatens in the poll, with Saturday's opponent the University of North Alabama (7-0) holding onto the region's top spot. Lenoir-Rhyne (8-0), last year's NCAA DII national runner-up, is second. DSU, Tuskegee (6-2) and Valdosta State (5-2) round out the top five.

The Statesmen are 2-1 against teams ranked in the region's top 10. DSU defeated No. 10 Fort Valley State 56-13 to open the season and claimed a 49-32 win two weeks later at No. 5 Valdosta State. The lone loss was suffered at No. 6 West Georgia in a 24-16 defeat at University Stadium in Carrollton, Georgia on Oct. 18.

Delta State has three home games remaining on its regular season schedule, including a top 20 clash this Saturday against the Lions. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Parker Field-McCool Stadium. Concordia (Ala.) travels to DSU on Saturday, Nov. 8 for Senior Day, while Mississippi College faces the Statesmen on Saturday, Nov. 15 for Homecoming.

The top six teams from each of the NCAA's four regions will advance to the Division II Football Championship Playoff beginning on Saturday, Nov. 22 at campus sites. Sporting Park in Kansas City, Missouri will be the site for the 2014 NCAA Division II National Championship Game on Saturday, Dec. 20.
