JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - What started out as a peaceful candlelight vigil, turned into an emotional scene on Monday night.

The mother of a 15-year-old killed this weekend while riding in a stolen car is blaming the police for her daughter's death. But Jackson police say they are not at fault.

Keisha Redmond, Keonna's mother says her daughter didn't have to die.

"They killed my baby. Someone else's baby is on life support and another person in jail damn near for the rest of their life because of a $12,000 car and a joy ride," Redmond tells us.

Jackson police say Keonna and two other teens were speeding down Raymond Road in the early hours of Saturday morning. An officer clocked the vehicle and made the stop.

Police say the officer pulled the vehicle over and once he got out of his car and started walking toward the vehicle, the driver of the car took off.

Chief Lee Vance says the officer never gave chase because the driver turned down a side street and then slammed into a tree.

But Keisha Redmond isn't buying it and is still searching for answers.

"This about a high speed chase. It was three kids in that car that night, 14 and two 15 year olds. My baby is dead and another child in ICU and another baby about to do life in jail. All because a police officer took the initiative to chase them children. For one stolen car."
