MCCOMB, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

According to the Enterprise Journal, a 16-year-old girl was raped Thursday morning as she walked to her school bus stop and McComb police are seeking help from the public in finding the suspect.

25-year-old Justin Brumfield of McComb is wanted in connection with the crime.

Detectives say the girl's attacker hid behind bushes along the route she takes to her school bus stop. He snatched the her as she walked by and forced her to the yard of an abandoned house in the 200 block of S. Cherry St. where he sexually assaulted her.

The assault happened sometime between 6:30 and 7 a.m. on Thursday, October 23.

The Enterprise Journal says that the victim was treated and released from Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center.

“This is one of the most dangerous kind of predators. Anytime a suspect stalks their victim and does something of this nature, we are on high alert,” McComb Detective Deska Varnado said.

Police did not make the information about the case public until Monday, citing the possibility of alerting the suspect.
