RIDGELAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

It is Halloween week and lots of folks are getting into the spirit, and the Mississippi Crafts Center is included. They've had a couple of contests hoping to get artists involved, all leading up to the Monster Bash Halloween Night.

What's Halloween without a pumpkin? Not much. And pumpkins that have much more than just eyes, noses and mouths cut out are the first samplings of the week of Halloween-oriented events at the Mississippi Crafts Center in Ridgeland.

With a pumpkin as their canvas, artisans were invited to do their best, or worst, depending on how you take Halloween, to carve them. And Executive Director of the Mississippi Craftsmen's Guild, Nancy Perkins, was pleased with the pumpkin decorating offerings for this year's contest.

The Pump-q-pine we thought was really a creative one, said Perkins. "It had the eyes and the mouth were carved out and the inside was carved out, but it was encrusted in something like 27-hundred candy corns. And they were all hot glued on there. So that's a special one. We have another one that's a little cemetery scene carved into the pumpkin."

And that's not all. The lawn is alive with creepy yard-art, all created by the creative members of the Craftsmen's Guild. And all of this plus other ghoulish garnishment is what will greet visitors to this year's Monster Bash Halloween night.

"And we have king Marshall Ramsey and queen Elee Reeves, they are our kind and queen of Halloween," said Perkins. "They are going to preside over the festivities."

It's a fun fund-raiser. You might win the prize for best costume. And you'll get the chance to visit the Crafts Center that changes its' costume weekly.

"Every weekend almost it becomes something else because we have a lot of weddings out here and corporate events and parties and our own exhibitions," said Perkins.

And once a year, it turns into the Monster Bash, Halloween night at the Mississippi Crafts Center in Ridgeland.
