VICKSBURG, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Vicksburg police are investigating a second home invasion in just two days. This time the target was an elderly man.

Investigators in the River City say a woman familiar with the 82-year-old homeowner had repeatedly tried to gain entry into his home. Wednesday she forced her way inside, but he wasn't as vulnerable as she thought.

Mr. Roosevelt Wilson met us at the door of his Vicksburg home with pistol in hand, not taking any chances after fending off a woman who kicked open his door just hours earlier.

That woman had come to his home several times in the past couple of weeks.

"She tried to get in, but I wouldn't let her in. 'I'm so and so. I brought you some meals', and I said put them down on the porch. She wouldn't. She left and came back again for something else," said Wilson.

Just before 10 Wednesday morning the woman wouldn't take no for an answer.

"She beat on the door. I heard her knocking you know. I wouldn't let her in," said the 82-year-old. "Well, I keep this 38 under my pillow you know. I was in the bed. So when this door opened, I made three shots up here and shot her yeah."

Vicksburg police said a trail of blood on Wilson's porch was left by 42-year-old Betty Robertson. Along with her was her boyfriend, 55-year-old Carl Marshall.

"When we arrived on the scene we did in fact find the victim. She had been shot in the leg," said Vicksburg Police chief Walter Armstrong. "They were not given permission to enter his home and of course he did not appreciate it, and he showed that by firing his weapon."

The retired Vicksburg Military Park employee said he was robbed previously this year by another woman who delivered meals to his home. He said Robertson knows her and thought she would also make Wilson her victim, but he had other plans.

"You can see the blood on the porch," said Wilson pointing to the dried spots at his front door.

Betty Robertson  was transported to River Region Hospital in Vicksburg then transferred to UMMC. She will be arrested when released from the Jackson hospital.

Marshall is in custody, charged with home invasion. Investigators are familiar with Marshall. Police released a mug shot of the Vicksburg man from a November 2004 arrest. He will make an initial court appearance on the home invasion charge Friday.

Police are still searching for the suspect in a separate home invasion that happened Monday on Roseland Drive. A teenager exchanged gunfire with a man who entered the home. Another woman and two small children were inside when he entered a bedroom and held them at gunpoint.
The gunman managed to escape.
