JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Loyd Star football player became ill at a Friday night football game and is now fighting for his life.

Saturday night Bruce Coleman, spokesperson for UMMC said 18-year-old Peyton Flowers, was listed in critical condition..

Loyd Star football Coach Adam Cook told us Flowers is in a medically induced coma and being treated for a subdural hematoma.

A subdural hematoma is a collection of blood outside the brain.

Cook said Flowers, a linebacker, asked for a break near the end of the 3rd quarter in the game against West Lincoln.

An ambulance was called when Flowers complained of feeling numb.

The coach said Flowers lost consciousness before being placed into the ambulance and was taken to Brookhaven hospital and then airlifted to UMMC in Jackson.

Cook told us Flowers is a senior at Loyd Star Attendance Center.
