Supervisor Stokes wants city/county government to help homeless shelters

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Hinds county supervisor says government should step up to help fund homeless shelters that face closure.

District 5 Supervisor Kenneth Stokes said the lack of shelters will force the homeless to seek abandoned houses.

He said homeless often start structure fires while trying to keep warm.

The supervisor said the county and city have been asked to give $100 thousand dollars each to help keep the Stewpot shelters opened.

Stokes said he has identified a funding source.
