MSU #1, Ole Miss #11 in new College Football Playoff Top 25

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - The second College Football Playoff Top 25 poll was released on Tuesday. Six SEC teams are ranked in the poll. Mississippi State remains #1 after their close win over Arkansas. Ole Miss dropped from #4 to #11 after their loss to Auburn. But the Rebels are ahead of five one-loss teams.

The College Football Playoff committee will release a Top 25 on November 4th, November 11th, November 18th, November 25th, and on December 2nd. The 12 members are emphasizing head-to-head results, conference champions, and strength of schedule. Head-to-head may be the reason why Ole Miss is in the top 4. The Rebels 23-17 victory over Alabama on October 4th could be a tiebreaker down the road.

Selection Sunday is set for December 7th. On that day the committee will select the top 4 teams for the playoff (semifinals are Sugar & Rose Bowls). They will also select the teams for the Fiesta, Orange, Cotton, and Peach Bowls.
