JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - NBA legend and one of the most powerful African American businessmen in America, Earvin Magic Johnson gave insight to Jackson State University students on a business platform.

The hall of famer and entrepreneur, Johnson took his skills inside JSU's College of Business, speaking to students about how to lead a successful business.

"So remember, that unless your family member is a worker willing to work, willing to take direction from you, then you can't hire them," said Johnson. "And so, that's very important."

Johnson told students his story of taking off the jersey and what it took to become Chairman and CEO of Magic Johnson Enterprises, which has become the number one Urban Brand in America. Business Management Major Sharon Johnson says he is a true inspiration.

"He made the point that we can be an average Joe and still make money," said Sharon Johnson. "He said that we have to go out and put work."

"I've been able to be successful because I'm a worker too," said Magic Johnson. "I go until we get it done."

Students listened as Johnson told them to believe in themselves and believe in the plan they have and most importantly, execute that plan with dedication.

"We don't have to be a professional basketball player or a star," said Sharon Johnson. "We work our plan and stick to our strategies. We can be just as successful as he is with whatever dream we are trying to bring to pass."

Dean of College of Business, Dr. Rami Maysami, says everyone knows Magic Johnson is a legend on the court, but the staff wanted students to know he is a legend in the office as well.

"We wanted business students to listen to him and know that there are many avenues to go on and become successful regardless of the path that you choose," said Dr. Maysami.
