Former Rankin County teacher sues district

A former teacher has filed a federal lawsuit against the Rankin County school district.

Mary Porter filed the lawsuit October 29, 2014, seeking damages for violation of her rights under the Age Discrimination Act of 1967 and for breach of contract.

Porter worked as an English teacher at Richland High school but claims in the lawsuit she was given an ultimatum to resign or be discharged.

This followed her showing an R-rated movie in class without getting permission.

In the lawsuit Porter claims other employees have violated the code of ethics, committing more egregious acts than showing an R-rated movie, but have been allowed to keep their jobs.
