Memorial service for WLBT anchor/reporter Sherri Hilton to be held Tuesday

MADISON COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Former WLBT anchor and reporter, Sherri Hilton, 55, died Saturday in Madison County. 

We are told that Sherri died of natural causes.

Visitation will be Monday, November 10th from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm and Tuesday, November 11th at 1:00 pm followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm at Breeland Funeral Home in Canton, Mississippi.

Sunday the State Treasurer's office issued a statement on Hilton's passing. 

The statement read "State Treasurer Lynn Fitch and the employees of the Office of the State Treasurer are deeply saddened about the passing of former colleague Sherri Hilton on Saturday November 8, 2014. Hilton served as Communications Director for the Office of the State Treasurer from January 2012 to October 2013. "Sherri was not only a valued employee, but a dear friend to all who knew her. Her smile brightened every room she entered. She will be remembered for her dedication to her profession, her husband Ken and her family and friends," said Treasurer Fitch. "Our deepest condolences go out to Sherri's family."

Hilton worked at Channel 3 for much of the 1990's as a reporter and weekend morning anchor.

She worked at WJTV's Channel 12 before that.

Sherri left TV to open the Persnickety gift store in Madison in 2000.

After that, she worked in the state treasurer's office, and most recently served as director of communications for the State Department of Finance and Administration.

Sherri received numerous awards for her business accomplishments, and was very active in community activities. She loved animals, and it was through her vision and hard work that the Madison Ark, an animal rescue kennel, was founded in Madison, Mississippi.
