RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Law enforcement says a woman who apparently threw her cat into the Ross Barnett Reservoir on Friday afternoon will not be charged.

Deputies say the 30-year-old woman is a mentally-disabled Iraq War veteran currently receiving treatment.

After the incident Friday afternoon, investigators say the woman did not come back home, which led her parents to file a missing persons report. She was located Saturday night and put back into treatment.

Deputies say the woman will not be charged because of her mental condition.

By the way, the cat was not injured, and the mother of the woman said she wants to keep it.
