VICKSBURG, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Vicksburg police say that the man who is accused of robbing the Kangaroo Express on Hwy 61 early Tuesday morning is in custody.

18-year-old Demond Anderson turned himself in Tuesday afternoon after being recognized by someone who called Crimestoppers after watching the local news.

Police says he has been charged with one count of armed robbery and will appear in Municipal court on Wednesday.

According to officials, the clerk at the gas station said Anderson entered the business, picked up a pack of candy and proceeded to the register to pay.

The clerk said that when she was opening the drawer to return his change, he pointed what she believed to be a gun through his hoodie pocket.

She says Anderson then demanded cash from the register.
