BRANDON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - World War II Veteran James McBrayer of Brandon will celebrate his 91st birthday Thursday.  Next month, the French Consulate will present him with the French Medal of Honor.

McBrayer was drafted into the Army before he was 21 while working in Detroit. He served as a military police officer in the Army during World War Two.

McBrayer says it was a long time ago when Uncle Sam came calling. He says he packed his bags and headed for the unknown.

"I was just a kid, I wasn't old enough to go fight," said McBrayer. "After roaming all over the country, they sent me to Camp Gordon Georgia. They said you are going to be assigned to the 10th Army Division Military Police Battalion Company. So, that's where I wound up until the entire outfit was ready and we landed somewhere in France."

After World War Two ended, McBrayer was sent to France. Because of his service in France, the French Consulate is honoring him next month with a French Medal of Honor. The ceremony will take place at Camp Shelby.
