RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) - Construction continues to transform roads off Treetops Boulevard in Flowood. West Rankin Parkway will lead to the city of Pearl.

"You can actually see more work being done from the Flowood end where Treetrops comes into Flowood Drive," said Mayor Brad Rogers.

Rogers says there are several phases to the seven million dollar project, but right now phase one is well underway for the upcoming West Rankin Parkway.

"It will get everything up to appropriate grade," added Rogers. "It will get all the bridges in. It will get all the side drains and all that done. Phase two will actually be the black top and asphalt."

Once complete, the three and a half mile parkway will take you from Treetops Boulevard south into Pearl ending at Pearson Road and Highway 80.

"It's going to open up a lot of property for the city of Pearl," said Rogers. "About 60 percent of the road is in Flowood and about 40 percent of the road opens up property in Pearl. But, it's going to open up a lot of property for both residential and commercial development."

Rogers says this will also alleviate traffic pains from Interstate's 20 and 55.

The project should take less than two years to complete.
