JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A federal appeals court has let stand the conviction of an Alabama woman sentenced to prison for kidnapping a girl from a Mississippi school because of a family dispute over property.

Jesse Mae Brown Pollard of Northport, Alabama, was sentenced in February to 25 years in prison. She has been described by prosecutors as orchestrating the plot.

Pollard was charged with taking the girl from East Kemper Elementary School in Scooba on April 30, 2013. The child was found unharmed the next day.

Pollard appealed her conviction and sentence saying the judge erred in not allowing her to present an insanity defense at trial.

A three-judge panel of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans said Thursday that Pollard waiting too long to file the appeal.
