Shoppers drawn to pre-Black Friday sales

RIDGELAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) - Many metro residents are taking advantage of deals before Black Friday even gets here.

For shoppers young and old, beating the crowds and getting a deal is too good to pass up.

"We bought three bears and mine was named Joy," six-year-old Hannah Warren said, who was shopping with her parents.

Many bargain hunters at Ridgeland's Northpark Mall said they're pretty pleased with the savings they're finding.

"I'm glad we came because everything [had] additional [discounts], by being on sale, then you get additional [off] the sales price," Cherron Williams said. "You won't have to fight or push or move anything. It's right there."

Hardcore Black Friday shoppers aren't exactly known for staying calm.

"I like to go, but I don't like to go for the crowd, because I always get pushed, and I always fall," said Ariel Self, a Vicksburg eleventh grader.

So they're avoiding the chaos, finding not only great prices, but also plenty of options.

"Right now, they have plenty of everything. You know, when you come out for Black Friday, everything's gone if you're not early," Jackson resident Nanette Mallard said. "Everything is gone by the time you get there. Sometimes, it's really not even worth it."

Will this early shopping impact Black Friday?

It's hard to tell at this point.

Officials with the Outlets of Mississippi in Pearl and Northpark Mall said they've been seeing a steady increase in traffic since October.

And some, despite already spending a little here and there, will probably brave the crowds anyway.

"Well, I mean, we're girls," Self said.

Then her friend Henna Patel chimed in.

"We're gonna shop, buy stuff, basically," Patel added.
