RAYMOND, MS (Mississippi News Now) - Several fire agencies were on the scene of a large brush fire Sunday.

Othor Cain, the spokesman for the Hinds County Sheriff's Department, said the location of the fire was Short Road in Raymond.

Our crew on the scene said both Old Port Gibson Road and Ratliff Road were blocked off by authorities on scene. Both roads are intersected by Short Road.

The Hinds County Sheriff's Department had the intersection of Old Port Gibson Road and Short Road blocked off.

Witnesses said around 12:45 p.m. they noticed thick light smoke.

The fire shifted from the north side of the street to the south side, creating another fire.

We spoke to a neighbor, who lives on Short Road, and we were told the fire was a distance from his home, but it shifted and ending up about a mile behind his home.

The neighbor told us no one on Short Road was evacuated from their homes.

The neighbor also told us the winds were high in the area.

Cain said there was no report of casualties or homes damaged.

Cain also said it took about 45 minutes for the Raymond, Bolton, Bench and Hinds County Fox Fire Departments to contain the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
