With all ten precincts counted in the Jackson Ward 1 City Council race, it appears no candidate got a majority of the vote.

The final but unofficial numbers show:
  • Dorsey Carson 1,410   (37.30%)
  • Ashby Foote  1,240   (32.80%)
  • Amile Wilson    522   (13.81%)
  • Charles Barbour    489   (12.94%)
  • Bob Hickingbottom      78    (2.06%)
  • Richard Sellers      41    (1.08%)
If these numbers hold up, Carson and Foote will face each other in a December 16 runoff.

Carson is a 43 year old construction lawyer. He and wife Susan have one daughter.

Foote, 63, is an investment advisor, who has four grown children with his wife Suzie.

"We feel really good about where we're at. We're gonna continue to get out our message about improving our streets, improving the infrastructure and working to keep the middle class tax base here and that's really been the key of our campaign," said Carson.

"We tip our hats to all candidates, Dorsey and the four others. There were lots of choices for the voters and competition made us better. We look forward to the next two weeks of the runoff campaign to visit with the voters, listen to their concerns and share the skill set we can bring to the city council," said Foote.

The candidates are seeking the seat vacated by Quentin Whitwell.
