Local burn bans issued for a dry December

HINDS COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) - The County Board of Supervisors has issued a burn ban for Hinds County due to a lack of rain and an increase of grass fires in the county.

This burn ban will be in effect from December 4, 2014 to December 30, 2014. The burn ban will expire on the stated end date at midnight if no further action is needed.

This burn ban includes all recreational fire and controlled burns with the exception of commercial contractors with heavy construction equipment, providing that said burn meets the State's DEQ regulations.

MDEQ regulations regarding open burning of brush piles require a separation distance of 1,500 feet from a residence without forced air assistance and 500 feet with forced air assistance.

For additional information contact the Hinds County Fire Coordinator, Ricky Moore at 601-968-6771.

We've also learned that Adams county supervisors have issued a burn ban in their county.

No time frame given for the Adams County ban.

It can be lifted as needed after consulting with county fire coordinator.
