PEARL, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A year later, The Outlets of Mississippi is a hit with shoppers and the city of Pearl. Money is flowing and new stores could open its doors.

"We have a huge influx of people all during the week, on the weekends and especially at times like this during the Christmas season," said Pearl Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kathy Deer.

Deer says the Outlets of Mississippi have brought in major tax dollars and revenue for the city.

"When we have visitors that are coming in from all over the southeast that are coming into the city, added Deer. "And of course it sounds cliche, but they eat, they shop and they spend the night here while they are here. So, obviously it's a big benefit to the city."

"The Pearl location is fabulous," said Outlets of Mississippi General Manager Kathy Hackshaw. "It's right smack dab in the center of Mississippi. For the whole year we are very, very pleased."

Hackshaw says about 75 percent of its business comes from the metro area. She says there is a possibility of more stores coming in 2015.

"We are getting a brand new coffee and sandwich shop called, Something Sippy before the middle of December," added Hackshaw. "We still have two spaces left. We'd like enough tenants to come in that we'd have to add on, but that won't happen in the next year, but I'd expect that we would be full."

Deer says thousands of shoppers are also helping boost local events like Jingle Bell Market which is happening Saturday in the parking lot of Trustmark Park across the street from the outlet mall.

"This is our sixth year to do this event," said Deer. "Now we have the outlet mall traffic which is thousands and thousands of more people. This event has just doubled in size just in a year's time because of the outlet mall."
