PORT GIBSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Mississippi Rural Water Association was notified Wednesday about a loss in water pressure for the City of Port Gibson.

JoJo Grammer, a Circuit Rider for the MS Rural Water Association, said the city is under a blanket boil water notice, which means the notice is being issued for the entire city.

Grammer said the water tower, located on the grounds of Claiborne County Hospital, is offline because it is being painted. He also said the project takes about 45 days to complete. Grammer added the tower controls water pressure.

Grammer also told us there were five main line breaks and at least four service line breaks as of Saturday morning.

Grammer said the water pressure was up to 54 pounds and crews are trying to get the pressure up to an optimum of 60 pounds.

We were told the breaks occurred because of the fluctuation in water pressure and pressure relieve valves have been installed to relieve the water pressure.

Grammer told us the water has not been contaminated.

Grammer said all water lines that were broken have now been repaired.

Some of the areas affected were Church Street, downtown Port Gibson, and Highway 547.
