Rebecca "Becky" Bickett says she and her longtime partner, Andrea Sanders, will be ready to tie the knot quickly if judges eventually allow same-sex marriage in Mississippi.
The Gulf Coast couple was among plaintiffs who sued the state this fall, challenging its marriage laws.
U.S. District Judge Carlton Reeves on Nov. 25 overturned the state's definition of marriage as being only between a man and a woman, but put his ruling temporarily on hold to let the state appeal.
This past week, 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals extended that hold, saying same-sex couples won't be allowed to marry in Mississippi while the state continues defending its laws.
Bickett calls the appeal a waste of public money.
