RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

During a traffic stop Rankin County police found more than 80 grams of Meth Saturday night.

Thomas Allen Jr., 37, and Tracie Michele Burt, 30, both of Brandon, were arrested after being pulled over in the 700 block of MS Highway 468 around 9 p.m. Saturday when deputies discovered 80 grams of meth inside the car.

Burt's five-month-old baby was in the car at the time.

Both are being charged with possession of more than 30 grams of Methamphetamine Ice, five counts of misdemeanor possession of controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and child endangerment.

The street value of the meth is approximately $8,000.

"Most of the time if we catch somebody it's going to be like a gram of meth, you see the pills, we'll catch somebody with a few pills. But this is a large amount of street level dope; you know we have what we call road kills out on the interstate where the dope is passing through. You see hundreds of pounds of marijuana, tens of pounds of cocaine, but this was destined towards our young men and women of Rankin County," said Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey.

Allen will face additional charges of DUI, DUI-child endangerment, careless driving, resisting arrest, open container, disorderly conduct, and tampering with evidence.

Burt will also face additional charges of open container, child neglect, disorderly conduct, and introducing contraband into a correctional facility.

Both were transported to the Rankin County Jail.

The case is under investigation by the Rankin County Sheriff's Office and the Rankin Madison District Attorney's Office.
