Magnolia State represented on 2014 All-Sun Belt Team

JACKSON (WLBT, RaginCajuns.com & AStateRedWolves.com) - It's been a big season of college football in Mississippi. The same can be said for Mississippi natives playing college pigskin out-of-state.

Five Magnolia State standouts have been selected to the 2014 All-Sun Belt Team. Jackson native Christian Ringo and Natchez native Justin Hamilton were tabbed to the First Team Defense. They helped anchor the Louisiana-Lafayette defensive line.

Ringo recorded a career-high 42 tackles on the season with 35 solos, 15.5 tackles for loss and finished tied for the SBC lead in fumble recoveries, including a 41-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown at Texas State. Named the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week on October 20th, Ringo had at least one sack in five of eight games and finished the regular season one-half sack shy of the single season school record set in 1993. He is within one sack from setting the career record and is 1.5 tackles for loss shy of tying the school single season record set in 1993.

Hamilton started all 12 games at nose tackle for the Ragin' Cajuns and recorded 26 tackles (22 solo) with 9.0 tackles for loss and five sacks. He ranked ninth in the Sun Belt Conference in both sacks and 15th in TFL and he led the squad with seven quarterback hurries on the year.

The Quave brothers from Gautier also earn All-Sun Belt honors. Daniel was picked to the first team while Mykhael earned second team honors.

Louisiana-Lafayette will face Nevada in the New Orleans Bowl. The game is December 20th at 10:00am on ESPN.

Michael Gordon is also on the All-Sun Belt Second Team. The Velma Jackson alum led Arkansas State with 1244 all-purpose yards. Gordon had 13 rushing touchdowns and 1 receiving touchdown.

Arkansas State will face Toledo in the GoDaddy Bowl. The game is January 4th at 8:00pm on ESPN.
