Police make two arrests related to recent Craigslist robberies

RIDGELAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) - On Friday night, November 28, around 8:30, Ridgeland police officers responded to 110 Pine Knoll Drive in reference to a robbery of an individual. 

This individual had answered a Craigslist add related to a poster selling an iPhone. 

The victim met two individuals at this apartment complex located at 110 Pine Knoll Drive and as he was retrieving his money to pay for the iPhone, one of the suspects selling the phone snatched the money from his hand and ran off. 

On Tuesday, December 2, Officers responded to 6600 Old Canton Road on a report of a victim having a wedding ring set stolen from him. 

Upon the officers arrival, they discovered the victim had posted an ad on Craigslist selling a diamond wedding ring set. 

The victim, seller communicated with an individual and agreed to meet at this location for the transaction. 

Upon the arrival of the suspect, the victim showed him the wedding ring set. 

The suspect snatched the wedding ring set from him and ran off. 

The victim chased him until the suspect displayed a firearm and told him ‘It's not worth it..."

During the course of these investigations, a suspect was identified and subsequently arrested. 

Ridgeland Police Department has charged and arrested 18-year-old Jameel D. Smith of Ridgeland with one count of Strong Arm Robbery and one count of Armed Robbery. 

Soon after, 24-year-old Deondrick Jones, also of Ridgeland, was arrested on a Strong Arm Robbery charge, in relation to the November 28th incident. 

Smith is currently being held in the Madison County Jail pending an initial appearance and Jones has posted bond and was released until his next court date of January 6, 2015.
