JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -  It's not something you see everyday.

Many people driving down Court Street today in Jackson may have seen an unusual sight. A horse in a wedding dress.

Reverend Edward James of Bertha Chapel M.B. Church dressed his horse, Charlotte, in a wedding dress to protest same sex marriage in front of the U.S. courthouse.

"I'm a Mississippian and I'm hoping and praying that we will remain a state that only recognizes marriage a between and man a woman," James says.

James told us that he is trying to make a point about the federal decision to lift the ban on same sex marriage in the state of Mississippi and that he hopes U.S. District Judge Carlton Reeves will change his mind.

One of his posters reads: "The next unnatural law. Do you take this horse to be your unnatural wedded spouse to have and to hold? This might be possible if the band [sic] on same sex marriage is lifted. Where do we draw the line?"

Another says: "Marriage is one man and one woman anything else is a perversion"

On November 25, Judge Carlton Reeves struck down the ban on gay marriage, but same-sex couples are temporarily banned from marrying in Mississippi until the federal court of appeals hears the case on January 9th.
