Top-notch young athletes came out Saturday, for competition for a good cause.

The gymnastics meet at St. Joe in Madison featured more than 350 gymnasts from Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas. It benefits the Derrick Jones Burn Foundation of Mississippi.

Jones suffered 3rd and 4th degree burns in an 18-wheeler truck explosion when he was 12-years-old. During his recovery, he received tremendous help from celebrity Richard Pryor. He now invites celebrities to his fund raisers, to ensure the physical, mental and spiritual well-being of other burn victims. Miss Mississippi Jasmine Murray was one of his celebrity guests on Saturday.

"(The money raised) goes to the burn victims and their families. If they need help with hospital bills, if they need help with garments, therapy, the whole works", Derrick Jones said.

Jones is the first burn survivor ever to become a professional body builder. His story can be found in the December/January edition of Hometown Rankin Magazine.
